چکیده

To the Editor: The neurobehavioral sequelae of traumatic brain injury significantly contribute to the longterm disability associated with this pathology. Thus far, there is insufficient evidence for either domainspecific or generalization effects resulting from cognitive intervention in memory, executive functioning, or speed-of-processing domains. Here, we report on the case of an adolescent patient who reduced the aforementioned cognitive deficits after being administered a structured cognitive rehabilitation program, allowing the reestablishment of premorbid academic and interpersonal functioning.

Association Between Serum Electrolyte Disturbances and Glasgow Coma Scale Score in Patients With Diffuse Axonal Injury

Background: Appropriate clinical measures to prevent secondary brain damage in traumatic brain injury are of critical importance. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the relationships between serum electrolyte disturbances and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score in patients with Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI) at the time of admission and discharge. Materials & Methods: In this retrospective cr...

Motivational Interviewing to Reinforce Coping and Improve Quality of Life in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury

Objectives: Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can adversely affect ones’ life and coping with it is very important. The present study reported the effects of reinforcing coping strategies using Motivational Interviewing (MI).  Methods: This was a case report of 5 males with SCI, with the Mean±SD age and time passed since the SCI of 34±15.9 years and 20.6±16.6, respectively. The study participants were ...

Clinical Utility of Diffusion Tensor Imaging and Fibre Tractography for Evaluating Diffuse Axonal Injury with Hemiparesis

Although diffuse axonal injury (DAI) frequently manifests as cognitive and/or motor disorders, abnormal brain findings are generally undetected by conventional imaging techniques. Here we report the case of a patient with DAI and hemiparesis. Although conventional MRI revealed no abnormalities, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and fibre tractography (FT) revealed the lesion speculated to be respo...

Differential effects of FK506 on structural and functional axonal deficits after diffuse brain injury in the immature rat.

Diffuse axonal injury is a major component of traumatic brain injury in children and correlates with long-term cognitive impairment. Traumatic brain injury in adult rodents has been linked to a decrease in compound action potential (CAP) in the corpus callosum, but information on trauma-associated diffuse axonal injury in immature rodents is limited. We investigated the effects of closed head i...

Neuronal adhesion and synapse organization in recovery after brain injury.

Few specific therapeutic targets exist to manage brain injury, despite the prevalence of stroke or traumatic brain injury. With traumatic brain injury, characteristic neuronal changes include axonal swelling and degeneration, and the loss of synapses, the sites of communication between neurons. This is followed by axonal sprouting and alterations in synaptic markers in recovery. The resulting c...
